At this time of year, wildflowers burst through red soil at Eurardy Reserve in mid-Western Australia, blanketing the landscape in colour. I am immensely grateful every season we watch this event unfold.

In this Bushtracks, we invite you to appreciate the importance of long-term monitoring throughout all stages of our adaptive Conservation Management Process (CMP). 

The stories in this Bushtracks demonstrate the inspiration Bush Heritage draws from nature’s ever-expanding qualities and the science-led work we deliver to enhance these qualities.

Together, we've secured the protection of a crucial waterbird breeding site – Nil Desperandum. Thank you for your support and generosity, which has helped to safeguard this piece of the Murray Darling Basin.

A Traditional Custodian once told me that ‘if you put your ear to a River Red Gum trunk, you can hear it drinking’.” So we tried and sure enough, we heard water being siphoned up. This edition is dedicated to trees.

We take a look at connecting landscapes to mitigate biodiversity loss, reflect on our ongoing partnership with Mimal Land Management, undertake some baseline ecological monitoring for BackTrack guides, and deepen our understanding of Djandak’s history, present and future.

We take a look at the importance of monitoring woodland birds, some unexpected possums found in Western Australia, fire preparation work around the country and our newest and largest reserve - Evelyn Downs in South Australia's Painted Desert region.

Together, we have secured the protection of a crucial waterbird breeding site – our latest reserve Nil Desperandum. A deep, sincere thank you to all our generous, supporters who have safeguarded the home of hundreds of bird species and numerous other native plants and animals.

Stories explore some of the incredible outcomes we can achieve when we work together. Includes an update on protecting endangered fish at Edgbaston, revegetation at Scottsdale and our partnership with the Wunambul Gaambera people in the Kimberley.

Our 'Living Waters' story follows Karajarri Elders and rangers as they journey back to sacred water sites. At Napperby Station, we're working with Hewitt to achieve shared ecological outcomes and At Yourka Reserve, ecologists Daniella Teixeira and Courtney Melton are quite literally recording the symphony of the bush.

Updates include our work to support a new generation of conservationists, cultural burns return to Friendly Beaches, Plains-wanderers increase in number and a look back at sharing knowledge, time and culture at the Garma Festival in the Northern Territory.

Stories include our work to create climate resilience in our landscapes, an update on natural capital accounting, plans for wet season burns in far north Queensland and our partnership managing Fish River Station in the Northern Territory.

Stories include new native grass orchards at Scottsdale (NSW), Rembarrnga and Dalabon Seasonal Calendars, a piece on our staff ISO birdwatching club and a profile on researcher Nick Leseberg, who is studying the critically endangered Night Parrot.
